Mosquito/West Nile Protection

The best way to protect yourself from West Nile disease is to prevent mosquito bites.  This is difficult to do since we all enjoy being outdoors, but here are a few tips that we can follow to at least help reduce our chances of contracting the disease.

  • Use mosquito repellent.
  • Wear long sleeve clothes, pants and socks if weather permits.
  • Get rid of any standing water that may be around your house.  For example, make sure to dump water out of buckets, pool covers, gutters, flower pots etc...
  • Try to avoid evening hours from dusk to dawn when mosquitoes are out the most.
  • To prevent mosquitoes from entering your house make sure there are no holes in the screens of your windows.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, you may be at risk for West Nile disease.  Symptoms may include, but not limited to, headache, body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash.  Call your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms so proper action can be taken.
