October is:

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women and it is the second leading cause of death among women.

It is usually recommended that women should have regular screening mammograms around the age of 40 or 50 and maybe sooner depending on your family history.  Ask your doctor when you should have your mammogram and how often.  The earlier breast cancer is detected the better your prognosis for survival.
