Patient Lab Instructions

Fasting Instructions:

Nothing to eat OR drink, except water, black coffee or unsweetened tea.

This means you CANNOT have:

  • Diet soda or soda
  • Juice
  • Candy, mints, gum or vitamins

How long to fast:

(before test) If testing for Lipids/Cholesterol...12 hours* If testing for Blood Sugar...8 – 12 hours*

*NOTE:
Fasting longer than 14 hours can cause an error in your lipid (cholesterol, triglycerides) results.

Other Details

Medications:

Medications should be taken as usual unless they are taken with food or milk or if your doctor says otherwise.

For drug levels (e.g. Digoxin, Dilantin, Tegretol, Theophylline, Quinidine, Norpace) it is recommended that these levels be drawn prior to the next dose for therapeutic monitoring.

Urine:

Urine collected at home should be kept refrigerated if the sample is not received in our lab within 1 hour of collection. Urine samples may not be refrigerated longer than 24 hours.

Lab Hours:

Monday – Friday
7:50 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Results:

Results are usually reported to you via mail, a phone call or through the secure portal from your provider or clinical care team member. If you have not heard from your provider ro clinical care team within 7 days please contact our office and ask for your clinical care team to assist you in getting a report on your tests.
